A synthesis of the evolution of the Roman principate through the centuries, with a documentation of the military achievements and the civil works of Augustus, the Julio-Claudians, the Flavians, Trajan, Hadrian, the principes from Antoninus Pius to the Severans and the last great Roman emperors.
